When It Seems Impossible – Week One: Belief in a Big God

Here’s the thing. We can listen to x amount of motivational speakers, read y amount of self-help books, and still be left with ZZ’s—a complete lack of motivation.

Here’s an example! Have you ever listened to someone speak before and leave fully pumped and excited, only to come to the realization that you have no idea what it is you are even “pumped” and “excited” for? Why is that? The foundation is not centered around the one book that truly provides all the answers we need.

Now here is the truth. Faith takes the next step without seeing the whole staircase, because great saints of old heard calls to mountain top experiences! Moses and Aaron were invited up Mt. Sinai while the priest and people were restricted to the valley below. Peter, James, and John were invited up the Mt. Of Transfiguration while the rest of the 12 apostles stayed behind, Elijah was encountered with God on mountain peaks, and Caleb after crossing into the Promised Land cried out, “Give me this mountain of which the LORD spoke!”. Facing these large mountain top callings, what was it that motivated them to even take that next step?

Belief in a Big God

Yahweh is the God of right now. “I am” is in the present tense. The Bible says, “A very present help in time of need”. Caleb called Him YAWHEH, a name never known until Moses enquired for God’s name at the burning bush. Meaning the great “I am who I am” since nothing else defines who God is but God Himself. What He says and what He does IS who He is. “Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him. The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. ‘Quick, get up! He said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists” (Acts 12:5-7). Here’s the takeaway: Calmness is the way we show we are trusting God.

Reflect

How are you showing God honor and glory in the waiting?

Meditate on Acts 12:5-7.
