A Shift In Perspective

“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.”
Colossians 3:2

The perspective we adopt becomes the foundation from which our choices naturally flow.

The world encourages us to follow our hearts, trust our instincts, and figure things out on our own.

But God’s Word tells us something different.

Scripture reminds us that “the heart is deceitful above all things” (Jeremiah 17:9), calls us to “trust in the Lord with all [our] heart, and do not lean on [our] own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5–6), and assures us that while we make many plans, “it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand” (Proverbs 19:21).

Wisdom Shared: Learning From Others

A dear friend of Sheologie, Jenn Robinson, shared a powerful message about the importance of living with a heavenly perspective.

She challenged us to step into the life God has for us by doing three things.

1. Step Into Healing

Healing often begins with honesty and surrender.

Jenn encouraged us: “Get the help, make the call, open up to a trusted person, and give yourself a new life of freedom.”

James 5:16 reminds us: “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”

There is no shame in asking for help.

2. Step Into His Perspective

Jenn prompted us to examine our hearts, warning us not to mistake a desire for excellence for a critical spirit.

“Seeking excellence invites us to grow and become more like the Lord. It isn’t motivated by shame. A critical spirit, however, tears down both ourselves and others and is deeply rooted in shame.”

She contrasted the world’s perspective with God’s, offering these powerful reminders:

  • The world focuses on outward appearances, but God looks at the heart. (1 Samuel 16:7)
  • The world insists we understand everything, but God tells us not to lean on our own understanding and to trust Him instead. (Proverbs 3:5–6)
  • The world demands instant results, but God works in His perfect timing. “With the Lord a day is like a thousand years…” (2 Peter 3:8)
  • The world sees weakness as failure, but God displays His strength through our weakness. (1 Corinthians 1:25)
  • The world fixates on what is seen, but God calls us to fix our eyes on what is unseen and eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:18)

“It is important that we live in reality, but also have a heavenly perspective.”

A heavenly perspective doesn’t change our circumstances; it changes how we walk through them.

3. Step Into Walking It Out

Jenn reminded us: “We need to walk out the Word, step into obedience, and pay attention to what God is asking of us.”

James 1:22 challenges us: “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

Following Jesus isn’t just about knowing His Word.

It’s about living it out.

His Perspective Changes Everything

When we begin to see life through His eyes instead of our own, our decisions change, our responses change, and eventually, we begin to change.

So today, lift your eyes upward instead of looking outward at your circumstances.

Whatever today holds, move forward with confidence, knowing God goes before every decision, every conversation, every appointment, and every ordinary moment of your day.

Before the busyness of the day begins, consider praying the simple prayer Jenn starts each morning with:

“Lord, give me Your eyes to see, Your ears to hear, and a heart that is quick to obey.”

May our perspective always be shaped by His truth instead of our circumstances.

Until next time, shine bright, sisters-
Not for praise, but for the One who saves.
