A Joyful Heart
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men…”
Colossians 3:23
The summer season is quickly coming to an end, which means that in just a few short weeks, another school year will kick off for my two kids.
And with that comes:
- New routines to implement
- Busy schedules to juggle
- To-do lists that seem to grow by the hour
If I’m being honest, I can already hear the faint whisper of grumbling and complaining, not just from my kids, but from me too, as I think of the ever-shifting, never-ending responsibilities waiting to be tackled.
A Friendly Reminder
The apostle Paul reminds us through his letter to the early church in Colossae that whatever we do, we are to do it for the Lord.
Not for your family.
Not for your boss.
Not for yourself.
But for the Lord!
Worship While You Work
I’ve found that accomplishing tasks I don’t want to do with a joyful heart and for the Lord requires a shift in how I approach my day.
Instead of simply going through the motions to get as much done as efficiently as possible, we must view each task as an opportunity to glorify God!
So…
- While we meal prep, let’s sing!
“Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!”
— Psalm 100:2 - While we fold laundry, let’s dance!
“These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.”
— John 15:11 - While we step into this busy season, let’s give thanks!
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
— 1 Thessalonians 5:18
May we see the tasks before us today as an opportunity to worship while we work; perhaps with a joyful whistle along the way!
Until next time, shine bright, sisters-
Not for praise, but for the One who saves.
