Rest Is A Necessity!
“For whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.
Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.” Hebrews 4:10-11
Rest… Ah, the word itself makes me sigh with longing. As a busy wife and mama of two fantastic, but equally busy kids, I am tired. Actually, I’m exhausted. Can you relate?
Though this season of my life is beautiful in its own way, I was recently reminded that rest is not a luxury, rather it’s a necessity.
Let that sink in for a moment…
Rest isn’t something we earn or only allow ourselves after accomplishing X, Y, and Z. It’s essential for our well-being, so we can function at our best in our daily tasks.
After all, the Creator of the Universe even rested (see Genesis 2:2).
Wisdom Shared: Learning from Others
Sara, a friend of Sheologie, put together a helpful questionnaire to help you notice where margin is missing in your life and discover what truly brings rest to your soul.
If, like me, you struggle to prioritize rest, you’ll want to check it out!
She gently reminds us that it’s perfectly okay to say no to a “good” thing when it comes down to choosing between rest and another commitment.
When we are rested, we can fully embrace the moments we’ve been blessed with, without feeling like we’re running on empty all the time.
Tomorrow is not guaranteed, so we should strive to live as if each day is a gift; because it truly is!
Release The Comparison
Resting in Jesus is the ultimate form of rest, and we experience it as we walk by faith.
But physical rest matters too.
What brings you rest?
For our friend Sara, it’s a consistent bedtime routine complete with hot tea and a skincare ritual.
For me, it’s all things nature- sitting outside listening to birds, soaking up the sunshine, or listening to a rainstorm from under a blanket on the couch.
Find what restores your soul and give yourself permission to take that time.
Let’s not compare what we can handle before resting to what others can manage. Everyone is fighting their own battles.
All we can do is follow the example set before us by our Heavenly Father and REST.
A Practical Rest Tip
Sara also shared a pro tip: Have you ever heard of a coffee nap? Drink a cup of coffee, not for pleasure, but for fuel, then set a timer for 25 minutes. Lay down and close your eyes. When the timer goes off, the caffeine will have kicked in, and you’ll be ready to take on the rest of your day.
After all, how does one get through the day without a little coffee and a whole lot of Jesus?
Until next time, shine bright, sisters-
Not for praise, but for the One who saves.
Bailey
I think that coffee nap is genius. Will have to try it.
Cara, I thought so, too!
