Hiding God’s Word In Our Hearts
“Keep my commandments and live; keep my teaching as the apple of your eye.
Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.” Proverbs 7:2–3
How Much Time Are You Spending in God’s Word?
The Bible is one big love letter from our Heavenly Father.
The words written in Scripture are true, living, and everlasting.
God’s Word is a treasure!
If you are anything like me, I tend to think that if I don’t have a solid half hour or more to give to God, I will just push it off until the next day, when I will “try harder” to make the time.
But the truth is, the Lord is so eager to spend time with us that even five minutes is better than nothing.
We must be intentional with our time in God’s Word because it is important that His voice be louder than the world’s endless chatter.
Why Knowing His Word Matters
It is especially important that we know Scripture so that we can share it with others when the Holy Spirit prompts us to do so.
Don’t worry! The Holy Spirit will be right by your side, so you must not shy away from sharing the powerful words of God with those who need to hear them.
Wisdom Shared: Learning From Others
Recently, we had a couple of fabulous friends from Sheologie share some tips and tricks for memorizing Scripture.
Between these two amazing women, they were able to share five different ways to memorize God’s Word: visually, auditorily, kinesthetically, verbally, and reflectively.
Each technique provides examples of how we can begin to store up Scripture in our hearts.
Scripture tells us, “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” (Matthew 12:34). We want what comes out of our mouths, whether we are sharing advice or feeling worn down from a long day, to reflect God’s wisdom.
Jen reminded us that God’s love language is written all throughout the pages of Scripture. Every verse reflects His heart for us and reveals how deeply He cares.
That is why it is so important to know what our Heavenly Father has to say; His words matter!
Equipped for Every Season
We want to be properly equipped for the guaranteed trials we will face (see 1 Peter 4:12–13), and having God’s Word stored in our hearts will help us respond correctly instead of reacting emotionally.
Gina used a wonderful analogy about how, if you were building a house with only one tool, let’s say a hammer, you would not get very far before desperately needing further assistance.
The same can be said about Scripture. Scripture is like the tools the Holy Spirit gives to us!
My husband always says you can never have too many tools. Similarly, you can never know too much of the Bible. We need the powerful words of Scripture to help us build lives that reflect Christ to those around us.
Choosing God’s Word Daily
Make the choice today, and every day, to be intentional with your time in God’s Word so that you may apply it to your life and bless those around you.
I promise, you won’t regret knowing God’s Word; so make it a priority to read at least one verse a day and begin hiding God’s precious words in your heart.
Until next time, shine bright, sisters-
Not for praise, but for the One who saves.
