True Comfort
“Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!”
Psalm 34:8
Fall is officially here, and nothing says “fall” to me quite like soup.
There’s just something about the way a steaming bowl warms you from the inside out, wrapping you in a kind of comfort only homemade soup can bring, while the changing leaves are falling all around you.
God’s Word: Comfort For Every Season
But did you know God’s Word works the same way, no matter the season?
Sometimes the Holy Spirit brings you to a particular passage that speaks directly to your soul.
In those moments, His Word doesn’t just inform…it comforts and heals.
Esau’s Story: Lasting Comfort vs. Temporary Satisfaction
Interestingly enough, soup even shows up in the Bible!
One of the most well-known accounts is the story of Esau.
After a long day of hunting and working in the field, Esau was so famished that he was willing to trade his birthright, aka his leadership in the family and a double inheritance, for a simple bowl of lentil soup (Genesis 25:29–34).
I can’t imagine giving up something so valuable for that particular bowl of soup. (Although, if you tempted me with green chile stew, I might pause for a moment!)
Esau’s choice reminds us how easy it is to focus on immediate desires while neglecting lasting blessings.
Soup can bring warmth.
But lasting, soul-deep comfort can only be found in our Heavenly Father.
Feeding Your Soul This Fall
So as soup season settles in, let’s enjoy the flavors of fall, but also remember this: God’s Word is the ultimate comfort food for the soul.
Let’s feed on His truth daily and let it warm us from the inside out.
Until next time, shine bright, sisters-
Not for praise, but for the One who saves.
